There is a fairly good selection of new and old movies here. The prices on new releases are higher than Redbox, but if you sign up for the text club, you can get coupons and deals.
Another thing that irks me is the fact that they prey on students. They claim that if you bring a report card in, they will give you one night free for every A you received. This sounds great, right? Wrong! You can not rent anything for several nights, only one night per A. Meaning you can't rent something for 5 or 3 nights... only 1. Not only do you have to re-rent it every night, but you can't even phone in. They make you drive all the way out and psychically re-rent it. Clearly Family Video is hoping that you forget to renew it one night so they can slap a grossly overpriced late fee on you. This is the only reason they are still in business. I am making a promise to myself to never rent a game or movie from Family Video again. I am horribly disappointed that they would be so manipulative and deceptive to A students.
One last thing is the customer service I experienced. I walked up to a desolate counter, with my over due game in hand, waiting to return it. I wait awhile and overhear a conversation about a movie between two individuals whom I assumed were customers. To my surprise, after awhile, one of the two individuals walks behind the desk. They weren't a customer, but an employee. I had entered Family Video un-greeted and unserved. This is beyond ridiculous, because at any customer service roles I have worked as, I would always make sure to make the customer first. Not a side task which takes second to personal chit-chat.
Prices are fantastic and the staff are always personable. I never thought I would see a video store again after the 90s and I am genuinely glad we wandered into this one.
Nice people, rates for 1 night are fair not great but fair. Love the place overall. And they have a section of free kid rentals.
Family Video is compensating for their loss of sales due to streaming by charging ridiculous late fees. The only time I ever rent at Family Video is if I am given a free 5 night rental because my account was inactive for a few months. I returned my free 5 night rental a day late by accident and they charge me almost $3!! I nearly could've rented another game for 5 nights with that. Sure, that's on me for not returning it on time, but $3 is absurd. $1.50 would be a sufficient deterrent.
The only place u can still walk in and pick out some movies! Great selection of New and Old....they have every Great old Movie that u would want. Huge selection of $1 movies....great place to take the kids on a Friday Night to pick out some movies! They have gumball machines there where u can win free rentals for a certain color gumball....my little ones love that! We go every weekend. Best bang for your entertainment buck. They have a lot of coupons. Its nearly impossible to spend a lot of money here. Love Family Video and their staff.
I would only recommend Family Video to someone if you are interested in renting a video game before you buy, to "test drive" it. Other than that, Family Video has gone the way of the dinosaurs. Their business practice has become obsolete compared to the capabilities of streaming. I will be surprised if Family Video remains an active player in this industry for another 5 years.
